The region is renowned for these attractions and I couldn’t get enough during my trip.
Praia da Rocha, with its beautiful sands and turquoise waters, is number one on my list. In November, you’ll have the beach practically to yourself, making it an ideal spot for serene relaxation and long seaside walks.
Regarding things to do in Algarve in November, don’t miss the opportunity to explore the stunning sea caves at Benagil Beach.
I highly recommend taking a boat tour this month, as it allows you to marvel at the mesmerizing rock formations that define this unique coastal landscape.

To make the most of your time in the area, hike through the lush forests and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Algarve region. Don’t forget to pack your camera for all of the photo opportunities!
A trip to the Algarve isn’t complete without visiting the Ria Formosa Natural Park – I love this beautiful place.
It’s a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts, and November brings migrating birds, making it an ideal time to spot various avian species.
Portugal in November allows you to witness another natural spectacle – the beauty of Ponta da Piedade.
One of the best things to do in Lagos, this site features dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear waters. I can’t hype the views here enough.

I must learn to cook some Portuguese dishes as I can’t stop thinking about the country’s food!
You should know that Algarve is renowned for its seafood, so you must indulge in freshly caught fish and seafood dishes during your visit. Here are some of the top restaurants in the region:
- A Vela (Carvoeiro): This restaurant is celebrated for its fresh and flavorful seafood dishes, including grilled fish, seafood rice, and cataplana.
- A Taska (Lagos): A Taska is a hidden gem in Lagos known for its fantastic seafood tapas and a wide variety of fresh catch. Try their grilled sardines, octopus salad, and the day’s catch prepared to perfection.
- Restaurante Gigi (Quarteira): Located on the beach, you’ll find an unbeatable seafood dining experience with stunning ocean views. Feast on their grilled seafood platter, which includes an array of prawns, fish, and more.
For a more immersive experience of the area’s cuisine, you can also explore the colorful local markets like the Lagos Fish Market and Olhão’s Municipal Market.
These markets offer a chance to sample local delicacies; you can even buy fresh produce and unique souvenirs to return home.

With its charming old town and historical sites, Lagos is a captivating place to explore. I really enjoyed strolling through the cobbled streets, seeing ancient churches, and just generally learning more about the rich history.
I also recommend visiting Faro for your museum fix. Faro is home to several museums and galleries that offer a deeper glimpse into the region’s culture and history.
Faro in November is quieter and offers a charming atmosphere.
If you’re wondering what things to do in Faro in November, my favorite sights were the Bone Chapel at Igreja do Carmo and the tiled shopping streets, so it’s worth checking them out!
5. Outdoor Activities
You’re spoilt for choice regarding outdoor activities in the Algarve!
The Algarve temperature in November is mild, making it ideal for outside. Golf courses in the area provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy the weather and though I’m not a huge golf fan, I did enjoy a few rounds with friends!
There are also so many options when it comes to hiking in Algarve, which is what this region is known for.
I got to complete the 6km-long Lilac Trail which takes you to the Barão de São João National Park, And don’t forget the Ponte da Piedade trail, a symbol of hiking in the Algarve!
Another great activity to enjoy in November here is surfing. The Algarve coastline provides excellent opportunities for surfing, and you can take lessons and ride the waves in the uncrowded waters this month.
Or, for a more leisurely outdoor activity, hire a bike and cycle through the gorgeous landscapes. November’s weather in the Algarve is perfect for cycling adventures!
With a picnic in tow, this is one of the most excellent and budget-friendly outdoor activities in the Algarve.
6. Relaxation and Wellness
After all of the sightseeing in the Algarve, prioritize some time for relaxation. This corner of Europe has plenty to offer in terms of wellness.
Algarve is home to many world-class spas, each offering a range of treatments perfect for soothing muscles and replenishing the mind.
Head to Bela Vista Hotel & Spa to indulge in a heavenly massage within Moorish architecture or for a more tropical vibe I’d recommend Vilalara Thalassa Resort, set on 12 hectares of stunning gardens in the cliffs at Alporchinhos.
Another relaxing activity that I tried was yoga by the ocean.
As the waves danced along the beachfront, stretching and activating the mind-body connection in alignment with the water was otherworldly.
Remember to take advantage of the gorgeous beach walks, especially at sunset. The autumnal skies over the Algarve put on a spectacular radiant show.
7. Day Trips and Excursions
There are so many day trips when considering what to do in Portugal in November. I’ll attempt to narrow my favorite day trip options to just a few for you.
First on my list is Silves. Silves is a great day trip destination with its historic castle and charming streets. I liked the town’s medieval history, and simply mulling around the boutique shops here, I might have bought a few goodies, too!
Next up is Sagres. Sagres is a coastal gem known for its dramatic cliffs and historical significance. I recommend heading to the Fortaleza de Sagres and soaking in the coastal beauty.
There’s no place quite like it.
Finally, don’t miss a day trip to Lisbon or Sevilla. Algarve’s strategic location allows for easy access to these beautiful cities, each with its rich cultural heritage, history, divine food, and local wine.
8. Wine Tasting
On the topic of wine, there’s more to be said! Whether you’re a red or white wine type, the Algarve’s wine is some of the finest in the world – and I take wine very seriously.
Exploring things to do in the Algarve in November, wine tasting in the region is a truly memorable experience and a delightful way to unlock Portugal’s history, culture, and flavors.

Adega do Cantor: Also known as the ‘Singer’s Cellar’, Sir Cliff Richard, a British musician and wine enthusiast, owns this winery. Located near Albufeira in the town of Guia and one of the best things to do in Albufeira.
Quinta dos Vales Wine Estate: Situated in the Lagoa area of the Algarve, Quinta dos Vales is a winery known for its beautiful vineyards and wine tastings and offers guided tours.
Herdade dos Grous: Although technically located in the neighboring Alentejo region, Herdade dos Grous is not far from the Algarve border and offers wine enthusiasts a fantastic tasting experience.

I’ve already told you that the autumnal sky over Portugal is out of this world, but believe me when I say I witnessed breathtaking sunsets in Algarve.
Get to Cape St. Vincent, a prime sunset-watching spot, if you can. In November, you can see nature’s masterpiece as the sun dips below the horizon.
Beyond sunset, November evenings in the Algarve offer spectacular views of starry skies and the tranquil coastline. Find a quiet spot and relish the beauty.
It’ll reaffirm just how unique the universe is!
10. Adventure in the Caves
Another highly recommended activity are the caves in the Algarve. If you’re an explorer like me, you have to check them out.
The best way to do this is to take a boat tour, which will take you to the intriguing sea caves and grottoes along the Algarve’s coast.
November’s sun also accentuates the beauty of Algarve’s coastal rock formations, so expect stellar views.
11. Attend a Fado Night
An aspect of Portuguese culture I adore is their music (especially with good wine)!
Get involved in Algarve’s lively and vibrant music, by attending a Fado night in a local venue. You’ll be transported by the heartfelt melodies and lyrics that resonate with the Portuguese soul.
My recommendations for a really good Fado night are:
- Fado at The Municipal Museum – a 40-minute show with the backdrop of the beautiful museum grounds
- Fado night with Algarvian tapas – a 2-hour-long fado and gastronomic journey through the dishes of the Algarve at a restaurant in Portimão.

November 1st is the day of Saints and Martyrs and there’s the ancient festival of São Martinho, which has been held since 1662. It’s celebrated by eating roast chestnuts and drinking the first of the year’s wine.

Outside of food markets in the Algarve, there are other types of local markets to enjoy, too.
Get yourself to the Lagos Fish Market and Olhão’s Municipal Market. These two markets were so fun and I got to sample lots of fresh food!
What’s more is the markets are brimming with handmade crafts, and the general buzz of the market is enough to energize anyone.
Cork souvenirs are popular in the Algarve – cork bags, keychains, bookmarks and many more gifts can be found.
Another popular souvenir is pottery, as Portugal is home to some of the most talented ceramicists in Europe!

13. Water Sports in Algarve
For those seeking thrilling things to do in Algarve in November, if you consider yourself an adrenaline junkie, you must dive into some water sports (literally!).
This time of year in the Algarve is perfect for windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding.
Gear up and give these water sports a go, I had so much fun but preferred the slower pace of paddleboarding the waves.

With its imposing walls and commanding views, the Castle of Silves is a must-visit historical gem. I climbed to the top of the castle to take in the view over Silves and could have stayed there for hours. It’s really special!
