Planning a trip to Spain in February? Here are things to do in Spain in February!
Most tourists travel Spain during summer. But I’ve actually always preferred exploring the country during the colder months, like February!
The crowd’s so much thinner, the weather is cool enough to wander through cities without drenching in sweat, and you can enjoy both summer and winter activities.
Not to mention, there are many festivities happening in February, such as Carnival in Cádiz and Calçotada in Catalonia, that’ll really help you understand the beauty and richness of Spain’s culture!
There are literally lots of amazing things to do in Spain in February.
That’s why, even though I lived in the country for several years, I was always anticipating February!
Trust me, if you plan to visit Spain this month, you’re in for a big treat!

Overview: Top Things to do in Spain in February
- Explore Seville’s Romantic Side for Valentine’s Day
- Visit the Museums of Madrid
- Hike the Caminito del Rey in Málaga
1. Attend the Almond Blossom Festival in Mallorca
One of my favorite things to do in Spain in February is attending the Almond Blossom Festival in Mallorca.
This is pretty much Spain’s version of Japan’s cherry blossom festival.
The only difference is that you’ll just be witnessing almond blossoms instead of cherry blossoms.
Plus, the almond trees bloom in February, much earlier than spring, when the cherry blossoms usually come out!
You’ll see endless fields of almond trees in full bloom, with pink and white flowers.
Anywhere you wander in Mallorca, you’re guaranteed to spot several trees here and there.
But, of course, for the best experience, attend the Almond Blossom Festival held on the first Sunday in February in Son Servera.
Not only will you be minutes away from the largest concentrations of blossoming almond trees, but you’ll also get to enjoy fun festivities with locals, including music, food, and dancing!
Watching almond trees blossom is really one of the best things to do in February in Spain, so don’t miss out!
2. Explore Seville’s Romantic Side for Valentine’s Day
Don’t get me wrong—almost every corner of Spain has a romantic vibe.
But Seville is just one of those special cities where you can have back-to-back dates during your stay and still have more to explore!
You can ride horse-drawn carriages with your partner for a slow, classic date.
Then, rent a rowboat in Seville’s beautiful canal after strolling through Plaza de España. You can also join a guided tour around the city.
The weather’s also perfect for exploring landmarks like Real Alcázar and Setas de Sevilla, so there are really endless things to do in Seville, Spain, in February.
Have I mentioned that the tapas and other local delicacies at Santa Cruz are to die for?
You and your partner will feast on your eyes and hearts and your taste buds when exploring Seville on Valentine’s Day!
3. Hit the Slopes in the Sierra Nevada
Most cities in Spain enjoy spring-like weather during February. However, Sierra Nevada still has wintery weather for month of February.
The best months to ski here are January and March, making it the perfect winter getaway while you’re in Spain.
From gentle beginner slopes and children’s tracks to more advanced activities like ski mountaineering and cross-country skiing, there’s something for everyone.
There’s also a snow park that’ll let you snowboard and freestyle to your heart’s content!
Now, I love skiing, so the last time I was in Spain during winter, I spent almost an entire week at a ski resort in Sierra Nevada.
It was gratifying to spend an entire day playing in the snow and wrapping up by relaxing in very cozy cabins after eating fantastic food at night!
So, if you’re still looking for things to do in Spain in February, make sure to add Sierra Nevada to your list! There are convenient ski or snowshoe tours you can join if you don’t want to visit by yourself!
4. Celebrate Carnival in Cádiz
What is Spain known for? Colorful carnivals, of course! So, if you’re a partygoer who will be in Spain in February, then you’re in absolute luck.
It’s the month when the Carnival of Cadiz, one of the most popular carnivals in Spain, is held!
This festival is celebrated over 11 days.
Throughout the celebration, expect to see lots of dancing, elaborate costumes, parades, concerts, music, good food, and local competitions!
But here’s an unofficial rule when joining the carnival:
Never wear boring or normal clothes! Just imagine it’s Halloween all over again, and embrace creativity and over-the-top fun when choosing your OOTD for the carnival!
Remember, the entire event is a party filled with colors! The best way to blend in is to get colorful and creative yourself!
Hands down, joining the Cadiz Carnival is one of the best things to do in Spain in February.
Just make sure to wear comfortable footwear. After all, the streets can get pretty packed and loitered during the event. I almost injured myself wearing thin sandals during the festival.
5. Explore the Museums of Madrid
If you love artistic, historical, cultural, and architectural wonders, exploring the museums in Madrid will be one of the best things to do in Madrid, Spain, in February.
There aren’t just one or two famous museums in the city.
During my stay, I visited nearly 10 museums, and there were still so many left that I couldn’t visit all of them!
Exploring museums was really one of my most unique experiences in Madrid.
The Museo Nacional Del Prado is a classic option. It has some of the finest European art collections and features works of renowned Spanish masters like Goya and Titian.
If you prefer more modern art, the Museo Reina Sofía is also a worthy stop. It’s home to incredible pieces from the 20th century, including Picasso’s “Guernica” painting.
CaixaForum Madrid was also a unique museum found in one of the best neighborhoods to stay in Madrid!
Are you a solo traveler who’s not fond of visiting museums alone? No worries, guided group museum tours are some of the most unique things to book in Madrid!
6. Visit the Calçotada in Catalonia
Let me introduce Calçotada: a festival celebrating a delicious spring onion dish called calçots!
I’ve attended various food festivals, but Calçotada surprised me the most.
I mean, most of us probably just use green onions as a garnish.
Who would’ve thought they’d get their special spotlight by having an entire festival about them?
Calçots are chargrilled green onions that are peeled and dipped in sauce. They’re often accompanied by grilled meats, too!
So, how is the Calçotada festival celebrated?
I’d describe it as a very home-like celebration. Not too noisy or crowded.
Locals usually demonstrate how calçots are made (from when the green onions are grown until they’re served with the sauce).
At the same time, you’ll find local vendors selling calçot-related goods!
My favorite part, though, is none other than the calçot eating competition, where locals try to eat as many calçots in an hour!
After attending this festival, I was completely transformed into an expert in calçots.
Even when I spent the next 48 hours in Barcelona, exploring wineries near Barcelona, I could still smell the subtle fragrance of green onions!
7. Hike the Caminito del Rey in Málaga
One of the most memorable things to do in Malaga, Spain, in February is to hike the Caminito del Rey.
This path is literally unlike any of my usual hiking routes.
After all, Caminito del Rey’s narrow path is literally an aerial walkway that requires you to stroll 100 meters above ground, suspended over faces of sheer cliffs!
Fun fact: this path used to be one of the most dangerous hikes in the world.
However, thanks to all the restorations and safety measures, it’s currently as safe as any hiking trail!
From beginning to end, your hike experience will be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes featuring dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and even some vegetation.
If you’re lucky, you can even find local wildlife like Egyptian vultures and wild boar!
I recommend booking guided tours with transportation to make your trip as convenient as possible!
February’s weather is perfect for enjoying this kind of hike, so if you’re not afraid of heights, check this out.
8. Discover Valencia’s Mild Winter Beaches
Still looking for things to do in Valencia, Spain, in February?
Here in the hottest place in Spain, February is already warm enough to explore beaches!
Of course, it’ll still be too chilly to take a dip.
However, the weather will be perfect enough for enjoying other beach activities, such as picnics, beach volleyball, hiking, and walking along the shore!
If you can tolerate splashes and are confident in your balancing skills, you can even paddle board in the sea!
My go-to winter beach in Valencia was Platja de la Malva-Rosa. It’s a fairly large beach that was very easy to reach. Plenty of restaurants and cafes were also perfect for a relaxing vacation!
To enjoy the warmest place in Spain, February really calls for beach fun!
9. Enjoy Flamenco Shows in Andalusia
I’m sure if you love watching movies set in Spain, you’re familiar with flamenco shows.
They’re traditional performances combining singing, dancing, and guitar playing. Plus, they often evoke a very intense range of emotions during these performances.
Now, there’s really no better place to watch flamenco shows than its birthplace, Andalusia, right?
So, if you’re ever nearby, make sure to schedule at least one flamenco performance.
Out of all the activities on this list, this will really give you the biggest glimpse of the Spanish culture!
10. Discover the Roman Ruins in Tarragona
Want to walk in the same walkways that Romans walked centuries ago?
Just visit the Roman Ruins in Tarragona!
The ruins may look like nothing but a series of steps from afar. But step a little closer, and you’ll find a fascinating history right below the existing city.
Letting my imagination run wild during my stay in these ruins was fun. Especially every time I saw little “fun fact” boards across the place.
Strolling through the Roman Ruins in Tarragona was one of the best things to do in Spain in February. I’ll definitely revisit it when I’m around!
11. Visit the Stunning Alhambra in Granada
Back when I was still wondering where to stay in Spain, I came across Alhambra, one of the most beautiful places in Spain.
This place is stunning. Palaces and other architecture that reflect the rich history of Alhambra are scattered all over the city, and the occasional gardens I saw were always so lush!
February offers perfect cool temperatures to stroll through Alhambra.
So, whether you’re visiting with a partner or traveling alone, you’ll have an amazing time exploring this city!
I recommend booking guided tours to enjoy stress-free Alhambra explorations!
12. Relax in the Thermal Baths of Ourense
Last but never least, try to visit the thermal baths of Ourense and have the best winter retreat of your life!
This experience was trendy among locals in the area. But I guess that’s to be expected.
These natural thermal baths are surrounded by very picturesque, lush nature and provide the best warm escape from the cold!
It’s the best February destination, basically.
Taking a dip in one of the natural springs was my go-to winter destresser while I was in Spain.
The relaxed setting also helped me get close to friendly locals almost instantly!
I highly recommend this activity to anyone. It’s one of the best things to do in Spain in February.
My Final Thoughts on Spain in February
I still have so many February activities on my mind that I want to share, but for now, these 12 recommendations should be enough.
Just remember that these suggestions are still the tip of the iceberg of all the excitement you can expect from Spain in February!
There are also places to visit in Northern Spain and things to see in San Sebastián that I haven’t talked about yet.
Not to mention, I haven’t included my favorite things to do in Barcelona, Spain, in February yet, including photos of famous buildings in Barcelona!
That said, feel free to use the activities above to start your adventure, but don’t limit your enjoyment to them!
