1. Hit the Beaches
Despite being the most crowded destination in the Algarve, exploring Albufeira is a must, as it’s one of the cities with numerous Blue Flag beaches in Europe.
Among those marked with blue flags is Praia dos Pescadores, an extensive golden-sand beach surrounded by yellow cliffs just right before the old town.
Down the Strip on the east side is the soft sandy beach of Praia da Oura, where young people usually hang out after a whole night of partying.
Another remarkable beach is the Praia da Falésia, which stretches from the nearby town Olhos de Água to Vilamoura and is known for its picturesque mix of natural colors– the reddish cliffs, the blue crystal clear sea and the greens of trees and wild vegetation.
A paradise with long stretches of sandy beach, you’ll cherish the free things to do in Albufeira– morning walks, sunbathing, and sunsets.

2. Water Sports
The extensive beaches in Algarve are perfect for family activities and varied water sports.
I didn’t pass the chance to brave one of the fun things to do in Albufeira in summer– Parasailing, where I flew 80 meters above the ocean and got a bird’s eye point of view of the old town and the impressive coast of Albufeira.
It was thrilling and a bit scary, but absolutely an unforgettable experience.
If you’re not ready to fly, jetskiing is another option to trigger your adrenaline as you rush against the wind and the waves. Banana boats and kayaks are popular water activities among families spending holidays in Albufeira in June.
Albufeira is also a hotspot for boat trips and tours, thanks to the marina complex on the western side. Most of the tours include dolphin-watching and a visit to the famous Benagil Cave.
3. Explore Old Town Albufeira
One of Albufeira’s charming attractions is the waterfront whitewashed houses that are mostly part of its old town.
The site is a beautiful remembrance of Albufeira’s humble beginnings as a small fishing village.
From the lively old town square, I had a lovely walk around the narrow cobblestone streets, discovering more colorful tiled structures, old walls, and archways until I reached the famous meet-up place, the 18th-century Clock Tower.
Along the rocky cliffs of the old town, there’s a small but fascinating museum, The Albufeira Municipal Archaeological Museum. It showcased a collection of artifacts found around the town, from prehistoric times to the modern age.

4. Enjoy Algarve Food
Taste traditional Portuguese cuisine from the quaint family-run restaurants of Albufeira with their local delicacies like grilled sardines and pastéis de nata (custard tarts).
One of them is Os Arcos, hidden on a side street in the old town.
You will enjoy their fresh fish and tasty homemade dishes, while The Beach Basket is a seafood restaurant that overlooks Praia do Túnel and highlights a refreshing balcony view of the sea.
Casa Da Fonte is another Portuguese restaurant that serves fresh, delicious food.
Handpainted tiles adorn its courtyard and has outdoor seating.
I always had a great meal during my summer stay.

5. Sunset Boat Cruise
Nothing is more romantic than watching the sun dip towards the horizon with your loved one and even more through a sunset boat cruise.
Many Albufeira boat tours highlight the magnificent view of the sunset. These cruises also offer local foods and cultural insights from knowledgeable tour guides.
I once joined a catamaran tour where I watched the sunset over Armação de Pêra Bay.
With the usually calm waters of the southern coast and the lovely afternoon silence, it was among the best Albufeira sights that gave me genuine relaxation.

6. Nightlife in Albufeira
What to do in Albufeira at night?
Albufeira is the nightlife capital of the Algarve and, perhaps, Portugal. From cocktail bars to clubs with big dance floors and live DJs, this town has the best nightspots for every tourist.
There are known clubs scattered around Albufeira, but the hype is at the Avenida Dr Francisco Sã Carneiro, popularly called “the Strip.”
Lined with the most vibrant clubs and bars, it’s a venue for night-long parties, strong drinks, and bar crawls clubbing, among the wildest places to visit in Albufeira.
I had been here for a friend’s hen party, partied the night away with loud music and multiple bars of shots and cocktails, and there was just no way not to loosen up!
Some famous clubs are Matt’s Bar and Liberto’s Lounge Club. Most of them close in January until Easter, so check the dates of your things to do in Albufeira in March.
7. Go on a day trip
If you’re not into night outs, Albufeira is an ideal jumping-off point for your day trips or things to do near Albufeira.
DIY or arranged, don’t miss a trip to Silves.
This town is the ancient capital of the Algarve, so there’s much history to uncover on your day trip, like the imposing red-bricked Castelo de Silves, an old fortress that lies along old town walls, and the calm Rio Arade.
I highly recommend visiting Faro as well.
Its proximity to the airport must be why many people overlook it as they rush to other towns. Still, along with old churches and classic architecture, it has a baroque city hall and a cobblestone plaza.
If you’re not on a group tour or hiring a car, the fastest way to get around these towns from Albufeira is by bus.
Other recommended day trips to see the best places in the Algarve are Loule, Vilamoura, Quarteria, and Olhão, which is the most famous market in Algarve.
8. Explore Algarve’s Caves
Because of its premier port, Albufeira can show you the richness of the Algarve’s coastlines in June, some of which are only accessible by water.
One of the most in-demand places to visit from Albufeira is the Benagil Cave.
Named one of the Top 10 Coolest Caves by Huffington Post in 2014, it became popular and has drawn numerous visitors since then.
Close to Benagil Cave are Zorreira Cave and the Arches of Marinha. They are marvelous nature formations surrounded by golden cliffs, more caves, and blue crystal-clear beaches.
A must among your things to do in Lagos and things to do in Carvoeiro.
To see something new within Albufeira, I took a tour of the impressive and sheltered Xorino Cave. – Book Benagil cave tours here
9. Golfing in Albufeira
Enjoy a leisurely round of tee times along the lush green sceneries and ocean views. There are 23 or more golf courses within and near Albufeira.
Lies between Salgados Beach and Salgados Lagoon Nature Reserve, the 18-hole Salgados Golf Club provides a well-balanced game due to its relatively level grounds, water hazards, and prevailing winds.
Pine Cliffs, however, is a popular nine-hole course suitable for golfers of any skill level. It’s situated in eastern Albufeira, on a cliff-top with pine trees, palms, and scenic ocean views.
I keep returning to this course because of its charm and have been trying to ace that ninth hole nicknamed Devil’s Parlor.
10. Shopping and Souvenirs
Albufeira is one of a kind, so don’t leave without souvenirs and crafts to remember it.
The Old Town Central Plaza has the most popular shops in the city. It is lined with boutiques selling branded clothing and shoes. Since it’s a tourist destination, prices tend to be upscale.
I tried to check out other shopping streets and the one in Praça dos Pescadores is an interesting find. I found numerous souvenir shops, less expensive shoes and leather products and grocery stores that sell local delicacies.
Don’t miss strolling around these streets, among the things you can see and things to do around Albufeira.
There are large shopping centers too, and vibrant weekly markets like the one at Rua das Escolas Street.
My final thoughts on Albufeira in June
Albufeira is a happy place in Portugal’s southernmost region. In June, its golden-white shores promise more surprises, with tours to hidden caves and varied water adventures.
The old fisherman’s town offers worthwhile day trips, fantastic sunset cruises and unparalleled nightlife—no wonder it’s tagged as the liveliest city of the Algarve.
