Having grown up in the heart of Luxembourg, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing its transformation from serene daytime landscapes to its charming nighttime aura.
From the laughter and lively conversations that fill the old town’s quaint cafes to the magical way the street lamps light up the cobblestone alleys, Luxembourg by night is a world unto itself.
Luxembourg may be tiny, but its heart beats strongly, especially after dark.
Whether mingling with locals at a hidden bar, enjoying a late-night snack at a food festival, or simply taking a moonlit walk across the Adolphe Bridge, traveling Luxembourg feels part of a well-kept secret.
Here are my favorite things to do in Luxembourg by night!

- Enjoy live music at a jazz club
- Have drinks at a rooftop bar
- Visit the annual Christmas market
1. Dinner at a Michelin-starred Restaurant
Regarding Michelin stars, one of the cool facts about Luxembourg is it’s one of the most renowned cities in the world for its abundant culinary scene.
Foodies like me can opt for a dinner at many Michelin-starred restaurants nationwide.
First on my list is Restaurant Le Sud, perched atop the former Mousel Brewery with scenic views of the Alzette River. Famed for its French and Mediterranean fare, Le Sud serves excellent pigeon fillet en croute and truffle mash.
Straight ahead on the river banks is Mosconi, a contemporary Italian restaurant that has garnered a Michelin star for its extensive menu, which includes bruschettas and antipasti.
Ma Langue Sourit also puts Luxembourg on the Michelin map with its two stars for excellent cooking and unique take on French cuisine.
The menu includes vegan and sustainable options such as marinated John Dory with kumquat and a sorbet of calamansi.
2. Nighttime walk in Echternach
Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg, and it lies near the border of Germany.
Echternach has a romantic ambiance at night, and I find it quite lovely, considering the array of cafes and restaurants lined up on the cobblestoned streets. There are numerous things to do in Echternach!
I’d often go for a late-night stroll and stop by Mistral Winebar for an aperitif. Its famous wine bar displays over 2000 wines from around the world.
For delicious tapas and beer, visit De Philo’Soff, which is just a few steps from City Hall.
Are you up for a chill night out? Then head to Cafe am Pudel, a laidback cafe near Echternach. You can also drop by Aal Eechternoach, a brasserie restaurant with a spacious terrace serving local food.
3. Explore Luxembourg City Old Town
Immerse in the historical charm of Luxembourg City’s old town, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
From the iconic French Gothic structure of the Notre Dame Cathedral to the Grand Ducal Palace and 19th-century Place d’Armes, the historic district is steeped in architectural wonders and must-visit places in Luxembourg.
With its grand facade, it’s no wonder the Notre Dame Cathedral is beautiful. It is one of the top sights in Luxembourg City, packed with more than 800 years of history.
While in town, don’t miss these bars and pubs: The Metropolitan, The White Rose Pub, and Scott’s Pub. Fancy a glass of vino or a pint of beer at any of these watering holes near Notre Dame Cathedral.
Surprisingly, the old town has many secrets to uncover, including the atmospheric narrow streets and historic squares, such as the paved Place d’Armes, where Christmas markets are held in December.
4. Evening Visit to Casemates du Bock
Travel back in time to Casemates du Bock, with underground tunnels that span 23 kilometers long, which served as an impressive fortress during the Spanish rule in 1644.
For history buffs, visiting the archaeological crypt or the antechamber is a remarkable experience among the long list of things to do in Luxembourg at night.
Right before dark, it’s a bonus to witness the picturesque views of Grund, Clausen, and Pfaffenthal districts through the loopholes and on top of the promontory.
After day trips from Luxembourg, you better sign up for an evening visit to Casemates du Bock and find out why it’s been named the Gibraltar of the North.
5. Enjoy Live Music at a Jazz Club or Music Venue
In a city like Luxembourg, where history and culture thrive, travelers often overlook the side of it, which is where it becomes most alive.
The city’s diverse music scene and vibrant nightlife are just two of the many highlights on my list of the top things to do around Luxembourg.
Dance the night away and tune in to Luxembourg’s jazz club scene until the wee hours, and I guarantee you’ll thank me later.
At Apoteca Bar and Club, the bar transitions into a nightclub buzzing with electrifying Latin and reggaeton music. The said nightclub is hidden among the stone ceilings, which makes it a great find!
Konrad Cafe is also a famed bar and music venue hosting occasional concerts.
For big-name artists and local bands, head to Kulturfabrik, a former slaughterhouse now turned into a rock club in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Since we’re talking about music venues, Rockhall has been one of the best concert halls in Luxembourg since 2005. Some previous artists who performed on stage include Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Pink, and more!
6. Nighttime Photography Tour
Have you ever wondered what Luxembourg looks like through the lens of your camera?
Shooting at night is undoubtedly one of the unique things to do in Luxembourg. Even beginner photographers can take stunning photos after dark.
Capture the famous tourist attractions in Luxembourg City alongside professional photographers, including Christophe Van Biesen and Alfonso Salgueiro.
During the three to five-hour tour, you’ll hop across the city’s iconic landmarks and illuminated streets with a DSLR or mirrorless camera.
Some of the tour highlights include the city’s railway station, Philharmonie concert hall, and the “Huelen Zand” fortress ruins.
7. Explore Esch by Night
Again, is Luxembourg safe at night? Yes, and Esch can attest to it.
Esch or Esch-sur-Alzette lies near the French border, southwest of Luxembourg. From being a small farming village 200 years ago, the city has become a cultural and entertainment hub.
Exploring Esch won’t bore you but can quite tire you out in a good way. Considering its endless music venues and nightlife spots, one night in the city won’t be enough.
Ratelach, for instance, serves delicious gluten-free beers. It’s situated within the courtyard of the Kulturfabrik Cultural Center, where concerts and gigs are usually held.
Another concert venue in Esch is Mix ‘N Kawa, which showcases electrifying performances such as jazz and punk rock.
In addition to its nightlife scene, Esch is also dotted with historical landmarks where you can go for a lovely stroll at night.
One of the iconic spots in Esch is Place de la Résistance, which houses the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights, featuring the Second World War in Luxembourg.
8. Evening Stroll in Parc de la Pétrusse or Parc de Merl-Belair
Want to beat the daytime crowds in Luxembourg? A lovely night stroll in Parc de la Pétrusse or Parc de Merl-Belair is the perfect way to enjoy the quiet natural time.
Among the many things to do in Luxembourg at night, walking along the city’s picturesque parks made me feel at ease.
Picture a night under the stars (if the weather permits) while sitting in the park with lush greenery. Wouldn’t it be the most romantic thing ever?
Just 15 minutes from the city center, Parc de Merl-Belair is a tranquil resting spot after a long day of exploring Luxembourg.
Then, prepare for a steep climb down (around 200 steps) into the Pétrusse Valley where sensational views await.
9. Late-night cocktails at a Rooftop Bar or Lounge
Don’t hit the hay yet, and grab a tipple at one of Luxembourg’s watering holes.
Soak up the city skyline at Mama Shelter, which boasts a gorgeous terrace with a retractable roof that allows you to fancy a drink.
At Skybar, sweeping forest views of the woods left me in awe. Here, you can dine on their fusion menu paired with premium cocktails.
Nestled atop hanging sky gardens, Restaurant SixSeven features incredible city views. Its perfect location makes it ideal for after-work drinks.
Apart from breathtaking vistas, the cozy seating at Le Sud calls for a romantic evening filled with late-night cocktails.
10. Attend a Night Market or Street Festival
Finally, shop around night markets or be merry at one of Luxembourg’s vibrant street festivals.
Come November, the city hosts an annual Christmas market, Wantermaart and the Winterlights Festival. Around 41 charming chalets offer festive goods, holiday treats, and other delicious Luxembourg traditional food.
Attending a street festival is among the top things to do in Luxembourg City.
My Final Thoughts on Luxembourg by Night
