12 Best Farm Tours in Wisconsin

Discover top farm tours in Wisconsin across the state’s picturesque countryside.

One of the reasons I always travel Wisconsin is its natural beauty.

This state has everything nature lovers could ever dream of, from lakes to forests, rolling hills, and vibrant foliage.

However, beyond its stunning natural landscapes, there’s another nature-related hidden gem you must not miss out on when in Wisconsin: its agricultural farms.

Whether you’re into fruits, alpacas, orchards, or simply curious about dairy production, the state offers farm tours that showcase it all.

In this post, I’ve compiled the best farm tours in Wisconsin that you must try at least once.

They’re perfect for family bonding or a refreshing, off-the-beaten-path experience as a solo traveler.

Reserve some camera space and energy, as these farms will fill your day in the best possible way!

Overview: My Favorite Farm Tours in Wisconsin

1. Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center

The Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center is hands-down one of my favorite farms to visit in Wisconsin.

Trust me, this is the epitome of a one-stop educational farm.

The tour’s 10,000 square feet of exhibit space explores six “themes.”

We started this tour with America’s Dairyland, where we got to see the “journey” of milk in person, from the cows to the bottled drinks we all love.

But my favorite part was undoubtedly the Birthing Barn.

Believe it or not, we witnessed a cow mother giving birth. If you’re lucky, you might get to experience the same miracle!

To make it extra easy to join this farm tour during your stay, I recommend staying in nearby inns like the AmericInn or this rental home on the shoreline of Lake Michigan.

2. Rooted in Red Cranberry Farm Wagon Tours

Cranberry is undeniably one of Wisconsin’s signature fruits.

The state is known for everything cranberry—ranging from a Cranberry Festival, a Cranberry Highway, and cranberry wines.

So, it only makes sense that you join one of the must-try Rooted in Red Cranberry Farm Wagon Tours.

Here, you can learn all the behind-the-scenes details of Wisconsin’s most beloved cranberry culture.

Specifically, we learned how cranberries get pollinated, grown, and harvested. We even got to ride a pulled wagon while drinking cranberry juice!

It was one of Wisconsin’s most delicious farm tours (if that’s a thing)!

We stayed at the Cobblestone Hotel & Suites the night before to make it extra easy to access this farm tour the next day.

If that’s fully booked during your stay, the Hotel Mead Resorts & Conventions Center is also just as good.

3. Knigge Family Farm

Let me introduce the Knigge Family Farm— a unique family farm where cows surprisingly milk themselves!

If you want unique dairy tours in Wisconsin, this is the place to go. This trip changed my perception of “family farms.”

It was fascinating to see literal robots milking cows with no supervision.

I also had fun talking to the family who runs the dairy farm. They were kind enough to show us the fruits, crops, and livestock that they raised on the side.

This was one of the cheapest Wisconsin dairy farm tours (only $10 per person), but the experience was premium!

4. Mulberry Lane Farm

Don’t let the name trick you—the Mulberry Lane Farm isn’t actually about Mulberry fruits.

It’s primarily a petting farm that also grows crops like pumpkins.

If you have kids, this is a perfect family hangout spot.

Depending on which season you visit, you’ll experience different unique activities!

We visited during spring, so we met and played with the farm’s “babies”—the less-than-a-year-old bunnies, kittens, chicks, and kid goats that the farm raises!

Cuddling with animals was unsurprisingly one of the most fun things to do in Wisconsin with kids.

I heard that you can also explore Pumpkin Patch events over the fall.

Speaking of pumpkin patches, if you’re fond of them, visit farms in Cedarburg as well.

We visited Cedarburg Creek Farm and Honey Creek Orchard. Our trip to both ended up being one of our favorite things to do in Cedarburg

5. Schairer’s Autumn Acres

Want to experience the beauty of fall?

Well, don’t just settle for joining fall festivals in Wisconsin.

You also gotta check out farms like Schairer’s Autumn Acres, which show their full-scale beauty when the leaves turn color!

I visited this farm together with my friend’s family. Here’s a sneak peek of how it went:

The kids enjoyed the 9-acre corn maze, petting farm, and pumpkin picking.

On the other hand, we adults enjoyed a wine-tasting event while listening to live music. Then, we sampled apple products at the farm store before going home.

Yes—this farm offers something for everyone, regardless of age. No wonder it’s one of the most popular farm tours in Wisconsin in the fall.

The best part? Tickets cost less than $10 per person. We visited over the weekend so that price includes a free wagon ride.

6. Hinchley’s Dairy Farm Tours

The Hinchley’s Dairy Farm Tour is one of the most educational and interactive dairy farm tours in Wisconsin.

I was surprised that the owner, Tina Hinchley, facilitates every tour herself.

Within two hours, we learned everything crucial about this dairy farm while interacting with newborn calves, goats, chickens, and pigs!

But here’s the most memorable part of my experience—being able to milk a cow the old way!

It was a little awkward at first, but it was so fun.

If you don’t want to try that, you can watch the robotic milking systems operate themselves instead or feed the cute calves.

It’s pretty obvious why many companies and schools choose to spend their celebrations at this location.

This tour was a fun experience, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone!

7. Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm & Shop

Wisconsin’s farms aren’t limited to your classic fruit and petting animal farms.

You can also visit farms like the Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm & Shop, one of my top-recommended places to visit in Wisconsin in summer.

The name says it all—a tour of this farm means a full sensory experience of calming, fragrant lavender fields.

Its garden hosts over 20,000 lavender plants (just imagine that), so expect lots of picture-perfect landscapes.

However, this tour won’t just be about sightseeing.

Your taste buds will also thank you for the lavender treats they can experience.

You can also purchase therapeutic-grade lavender essential oil to help you sleep like a log!

This tour is one of the best things to do in Wisconsin in May

Want to enjoy the craft beer and wines this lavender farm offers? Make sure to book nearby accommodation for your convenience.

8. NorthStar Bison Ranch Tours

an image of a bison grazing in a grassy field

If you haven’t seen bison up close yet, don’t forget to make the most out of your Wisconsin trip by trying out one of the NorthStar Bison Ranch Tours.

At first, I didn’t have high expectations for this hour-long tour. I thought, “Bison couldn’t be that different from pictures, right?”

But I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Seeing bison in a wild-like environment was an entirely new experience—especially when I saw baby bison running like puppies toward their moms.

It was kind of bittersweet, imagining that some of the bison I saw were eventually going to be processed as meat.

But knowing that this farm focuses on sustainable ranching made me feel better.

Make sure to choose the tour option with lunch—it saved us the trouble of finding a nearby restaurant, and it was delicious!

9. Bayfield Fruit Loop

Driving the Bayfield Fruit Loop is the best way to explore Bayfield, the Berry Capital and one of the most charming farm towns in Wisconsin.

The loop is composed of 13 different berry farms and orchards. So, rent a car and choose whichever farm your heart sets its sights on!

Over the summer, this loop is a paradise filled with strawberries, cherries, blueberries (and pretty much any berry you can name).

Then, in the fall, this becomes a go-to apple orchard for local families and tourists like you.

No minute of our Bayfield Fruit Loop trip was ever slightly boring.

It was quite a drive away from our accommodation, but since the drive felt like one of the most scenic drives in Wisconsin (thanks to the view of Lake Superior), we enjoyed every second!

Book a stay near the loop early to save money. This area is quite popular among tourists, so prices can rise quickly.

10. Sabamba Alpaca Ranch

For a relaxing trip filled with the cutest interactions with fluffy animals, visit Wisconsin’s Sabamba Alpaca Ranch.

Whether you see them full of fleece or recently shaved, there’s no denying that seeing these cute alpacas will make you smile. They’re like giant, nonchalant poodles!

Seeing and interacting with them up close stripped my traveling fatigue off in seconds.

Oh, and if you’re looking for Wisconsin souvenirs to bring home, there’s no doubt this is the best place to be!

You’ll find all sorts of alpaca wool products from the Sabamba Alpaca Ranch.

I remember leaving the tour with two bags full of scarves, gloves, and other gifts to bring to my friends back home.

11. Suncrest Gardens Farm

a wooden table topped with a pizza and a cup of coffee

The best tours I can remember are ones that revolve around food.

Tours like the one offered by the Suncrest Gardens Farm, one of the best farm-to-table farms in Wisconsin!

This tour gives off that “outside-the-city” vibe.

When we visited, we started our stay by picking some flowers for a DIY bouquet, building our own pizza, and eating out in the gardens picnic-style.

The kids were running around without technology, the adults were talking and laughing, and the entire setting just felt like life back in the ’90s—away from chaos.

If you love food and want a “slow” city getaway, Suncrest Gardens Farm deserves a top spot on your Wisconsin to-do list.

12. Rainbow Ridge Farms

Let’s wrap up this list with a farm that also acts as a bed-and-breakfast—Rainbow Ridge Farms.

This accommodation gives off that camping vibe.

It’s perfect for those who want to try camping in Wisconsin but don’t want to rough up their trip too much.

The activities here are never-ending. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, but you get the point.

Just minutes away from the farm, you can bike through the Great River Bike Trail, check out water activities nearby, and cross-country ski if you’re visiting in winter!

Have I mentioned you can join a yoga session with goats?

Yes! It offers many things to do in Wisconsin for kids and adults alike!

Book a stay here to please the animal lover and nature enthusiast within you!

My Final Thoughts on Farm Tours in Wisconsin

a farm with sheeps lined up in a gate with kids interacting with them

When it comes to farm tours, Wisconsin never disappoints.

From crops, animals, dairy, fruits, and wool—the state offers all kinds of farms perfect for learning while simultaneously enjoying!

They’re usually very affordable, too. And for babies, these experiences count as free tours in Wisconsin!

Trust me, you gotta try at least one of these experiences while you stay in the state.

Sure, city explorations are nice. But as humans, I think we’re designed to connect with nature and plants occasionally.
