It was thrilling and a bit scary, but absolutely an unforgettable experience.
If you’re not ready to fly, jetskiing is another option to trigger your adrenaline as you rush against the wind and the waves. Banana boats and kayaks are popular water activities among families spending holidays in Albufeira in June.
Albufeira is also a hotspot for boat trips and tours, thanks to the marina complex on the western side. Most of the tours include dolphin-watching and a visit to the famous Benagil Cave.
3. Explore Old Town Albufeira
One of Albufeira’s charming attractions is the waterfront whitewashed houses that are mostly part of its old town.
The site is a beautiful remembrance of Albufeira’s humble beginnings as a small fishing village.
From the lively old town square, I had a lovely walk around the narrow cobblestone streets, discovering more colorful tiled structures, old walls, and archways until I reached the famous meet-up place, the 18th-century Clock Tower.
Along the rocky cliffs of the old town, there’s a small but fascinating museum, The Albufeira Municipal Archaeological Museum. It showcased a collection of artifacts found around the town, from prehistoric times to the modern age.

4. Enjoy Algarve Food
Taste traditional Portuguese cuisine from the quaint family-run restaurants of Albufeira with their local delicacies like grilled sardines and pastéis de nata (custard tarts).
One of them is Os Arcos, hidden on a side street in the old town.
You will enjoy their fresh fish and tasty homemade dishes, while The Beach Basket is a seafood restaurant that overlooks Praia do Túnel and highlights a refreshing balcony view of the sea.
Casa Da Fonte is another Portuguese restaurant that serves fresh, delicious food.
Handpainted tiles adorn its courtyard and has outdoor seating.

I had been here for a friend’s hen party, partied the night away with loud music and multiple bars of shots and cocktails, and there was just no way not to loosen up!

7. Go on a day trip
If you’re not into night outs, Albufeira is an ideal jumping-off point for your day trips or things to do near Albufeira.
DIY or arranged, don’t miss a trip to Silves.
This town is the ancient capital of the Algarve, so there’s much history to uncover on your day trip, like the imposing red-bricked Castelo de Silves, an old fortress that lies along old town walls, and the calm Rio Arade.
I highly recommend visiting Faro as well.
Its proximity to the airport must be why many people overlook it as they rush to other towns. Still, along with old churches and classic architecture, it has a baroque city hall and a cobblestone plaza.
If you’re not on a group tour or hiring a car, the fastest way to get around these towns from Albufeira is by bus.
Other recommended day trips to see the best places in the Algarve are Loule, Vilamoura, Quarteria, and Olhão, which is the most famous market in Algarve.
8. Explore Algarve’s Caves
Because of its premier port, Albufeira can show you the richness of the Algarve’s coastlines in June, some of which are only accessible by water.
One of the most in-demand places to visit from Albufeira is the Benagil Cave.
Named one of the Top 10 Coolest Caves by Huffington Post in 2014, it became popular and has drawn numerous visitors since then.

Lies between Salgados Beach and Salgados Lagoon Nature Reserve, the 18-hole Salgados Golf Club provides a well-balanced game due to its relatively level grounds, water hazards, and prevailing winds.
Pine Cliffs, however, is a popular nine-hole course suitable for golfers of any skill level. It’s situated in eastern Albufeira, on a cliff-top with pine trees, palms, and scenic ocean views.
I keep returning to this course because of its charm and have been trying to ace that ninth hole nicknamed Devil’s Parlor.
10. Shopping and Souvenirs
Albufeira is one of a kind, so don’t leave without souvenirs and crafts to remember it.
The Old Town Central Plaza has the most popular shops in the city. It is lined with boutiques selling branded clothing and shoes. Since it’s a tourist destination, prices tend to be upscale.
I tried to check out other shopping streets and the one in Praça dos Pescadores is an interesting find. I found numerous souvenir shops, less expensive shoes and leather products and grocery stores that sell local delicacies.

There are large shopping centers too, and vibrant weekly markets like the one at Rua das Escolas Street.
