1. Visit the Mudam Luxembourg (Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean)

If you have art-loving kids or simply want to introduce them to the world of modern art, the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean is a must-visit!

Guided tours and workshops are also available, where kids can learn about different art techniques and create their own artwork. The museum’s location in a renovated fortress also adds to its appeal.

2. The National Museum of History and Art

The museum explores Luxembourg’s history and culture with interactive displays and hands-on activities perfect for the whole family.

One of the highlights is the Gallo-Roman Villa, a reconstructed Roman villa that showcases life in ancient times.

This museum used to be my favorite museum as a kid! At school, we’d organize an excursion to this absolutely fantastic museum.

Here, you’ll learn how animals and nature have evolved throughout time. The museum has so many samples that even to this day, I love visiting it.

The museum is home to a large 1000 qm exhibition on natural history, educational space, a research center, and collection facilities.

6. Go for a walk in the City Park

One of the best ways to enjoy a sunny day in Luxembourg is to walk through Parc de la Ville (City Park). It’s located in Old Town and the Gare district.

Enjoy a walk along the tree-lined paths, picnic, or simply relax on one of the many benches. The park is home to several playgrounds and a small petting zoo, sure to keep kids entertained.

During the summer, the park also hosts a variety of outdoor concerts and events.

Insider Tip: The park’s central location makes combining your visit with other nearby attractions easy. Pop into the neighbouring Villa Vauban art museum or grab an ice cream at a nearby café before returning for more park fun.

7. Ride the Petrusse Express train

Riding the Petrusse Express train is a fun and unique activity.

The miniature train takes you on a scenic city tour, passing by some of the city’s most famous landmarks, such as the Bock Casemates and the Adolphe Bridge.

The 45-minute train ride is narrated with facts and stories about the city’s history and culture. Kids will love the novelty of riding on a small train through the city, which saves them walking long distances.

Parc Merveilleux

Park Mervilleux is located in Bettembourg, just a short 20-minute drive from the city center. The park has a variety of rides and attractions, including a mini train ride, a pirate ship, and a water ride.

In addition to the rides, the park has a small zoo with animals such as deer, monkeys, and flamingos. There’s also a playground and picnic area.

Vianden Castle

This castle is a perfect day trip in the picturesque town of Vianden. The castle, one of the best castles in Luxembourg, dates back to the 10th century and is one of Europe’s most well-preserved castles.

Visitors can explore the castle’s towers, dungeons, and halls and enjoy the beautiful views of the town and the surrounding countryside. 

To get to Vianden Castle, you can take a train from Luxembourg City to Ettelbruck and then transfer to a bus that takes you directly to Vianden.

Alternatively, you can drive to Vianden, which takes about 40 minutes.

Dinant, Belgium

This charming town in Belgium is only a short drive from Luxembourg City. Kids will love exploring the Citadel of Dinant, a fortress that overlooks the town and has views of the Meuse River.

The town also has a cable car that takes you to the top of the Citadel, from where they can enjotown viewswn.

To get to Dinant, you can rent a car and drive, which takes about 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train from Luxembourg City to Namur and then transfer to a train that takes you directly to Dinant.

Luxembourg City has plenty of great areas to stay with kids as they also have plenty of cozy Luxembourg boutique hotels.

One of the best areas to stay in is the City Centre, home to many of the city’s top attractions, restaurants, and shops.

Another good option is Kirchberg, a more modern city area with lots of green space and parks. The area is also home to the European Parliament. 

The Grund area is also great place to stay as it is located next to the river and has plenty of restaurants and cafes to enjoy.
